Today is my 65th birthday. (Yes, I should get an updated press photo since the one you see was taken four months before my 55th birthday. But, priorities vs importance.) I bring this up because when you reach 65, it's supposed to be the "golden years" in which you allegedly begin to enjoy the fruits of your lifetime of toil and labor. For me, nothing could be further from the truth because we are in the fight for not only our individual survival, but that of our beloved republic. The noose is tightening around our necks and any illusion about the economy being in any flavor of recovery is a cruel illusion. As a brief back story, almost 23 years ago I was at the annual publisher's convention bash in LA where all the big names of the day were there signing autographs. My first book was on display with my publisher. Since there was no long line to get my autograph and probably looking bored, my publisher handed me a book and said "This is right up your alley". I looked at the cover and opened the book - right to the segment on the "Federal" Reserve. As I read I thought to myself, this can't be true. Why would the "Federal" Reserve be called federal if it wasn't? I knew nothing of the author, Colonel James "Bo" Gritz, former U.S. Army Special Forces, but one thing I knew after reading what I could at the convention, when I got home to Colorado, I was going to order a copy of his book, Called to Serve. What I read in that book scared the hell out of me. It literally changed the direction of my life. Yes, one of those moments in time when the truth smacks you upside your head.
I had never heard or read anything about what was in that book. At the time I was a federal whistle blower who lost my job for filing a fraud, waste and abuse charge against my own job. While an internal audit concluded I was right, after a nine month stint in another position I was moved into, the pink slip was already a done deal. I began researching what Gritz said in his book and was horrified that such evil doings were going on while we were simply doing what most Americans do: go to work everyday, for us fishing on the weekends, raise our family. But, I told my husband after months of research I couldn't just go on with job hunting, I had to do what I could to educate people about the danger facing us. A paycheck wouldn't mean much without freedom and liberty.
By then it was the every four year horse and pony show called a presidential election. While I was certainly no expert on fiat currency and fractional banking, I was learning and wanted to share that knowledge. I wrote a little booklet titled, Why A Bankrupt America, published it in February 1993 and sold one million six hundred fifty three thousand copies at cost. I retired both my booklets (Blind Loyalty published in 1996 which focused on provable vote fraud and how our elections were being stolen. I sold 700,000 copies at cost). in mid 2004.
The rest is history as they say, but along the way I have been very blessed to form dear friendships with a handful of individuals who have taught me so much about the law (Larry Becraft) and how fiat currency ravages a country (Dr. Edwin Vieira), just to name two. From them and reading so many books, in essence what I was doing is educating myself on what I had never been taught in the public school system: "Paper is poverty, .... it is only the ghost of money, and not money itself." -- Thomas Jefferson, 1788
Over the past two decades my research hasn't just focused on the "Fed" and the income tax, but the diabolical plan to destroy this constitutional republic. Those who own Washington, DC, the professional prostitutes who occupy the White House and Congress after Congress. Sadly, the majority of Americans continue to have little interest in how we got here, who funded this treason or even how it affects their daily lives. As I have urged so many times, if you read books by the late Professor Antony Sutton, you will know the truth [1] about who really runs the game.
"Sutton showed how the Soviet state's technological and manufacturing base, which was then engaged in supplying the North Vietnamese the armaments and supplies to kill and wound American soldiers, was built by US firms and mostly paid for by the US taxpayers. From their largest steel and iron plant, to automobile manufacturing equipment, to precision ball-bearings and computers, basically the majority of the Soviet's large industrial enterprises had been built with the United States help or technical assistance...."His work led him to more questions than answers. "Why had the US built-up it's enemy? Why did the US build-up the Soviet Union, while we also transferred technology to Hitler's Germany? Why does Washington want to conceal these facts?
"Sutton, following his leads, proceeded to research and write his three outstanding books on Wall Street, FDR, the Rise of Hitler, and The Bolshevik Revolution. Then, someone sent Antony a membership list of Skull and Bones and "a picture jumped out". And what a picture! A multigenerational foreign-based secret society with fingers in all kinds of pies and roots going back to 'Illuminati' influences in 1830's Germany."
I wrote the above for a reason. Over the past 23 years I have learned who knows what they're talking about, who are the disinformation agents out to deliberately mislead you, those who peddle discredited garbage and those in the 'take back America' movement, if you will, who are in it strictly for the money. Always wanting your donations, but never touching on the truth told in Sutton's books.
The plans of the global elites carried out by occupants in the White House and Congresses for more than 100 years have brought us to where we are now. Are we on the brink of a depression? How can one deny what's right in front of them? Americans were shell shocked by August 2008; I was not. I knew it was coming. I knew from my research, from sacrificing my time (instead of going fishing, a great passion in my life) to read treaties, legislation and hundreds of books. Individuals with credibility were warning Americans for several years prior to 2008 that the bank melt down was coming. Dr. Vieira began writing about it for NWVs back in 2005.
A dear friend of mine since 1998 in the precious medals industry told me in summer 2005 the bank melt down was coming and that the housing market was going to crash and burn. Harvey ask if John and I planned to live in Sacramento after John retired. I said no way. After listening to Harvey's wisdom, I knew we had to sell our house and get out of that mortgage. At the time, houses in that number one planned community development were selling over the weekend. Then John was diagnosed with cancer; my plans were put on hold until February 2006 when I came here to W. Texas and purchased our house. We were fortunate enough to close escrow on the house in Sacramento in September 2006. John retired and got here.
Homes were not selling in Natomas Park (Sacto) when we put ours on the market; it literally hit overnight. We were very lucky to sell ours for a small profit. In November 2007, I drove to Natomas Park on the way to my mother's for Thanksgiving. The first thing I saw at the entrance was a huge banner: Foreclosure Auctions Tues & Thurs Nights. I was shocked. The couple who purchased our home will never be able to sell it for what they paid us; it's valued at $225,000 less than when we closed escrow. A full half of those hundreds and hundreds of homes were underwater mortgages by then. We got out in time because I listened to Harvey Gordin.
Sadly, Americans weren't paying attention and got slammed with the bank meltdown and found their mortages underwater with no way to get out except either foreclosure or walk away. Along with the banks, Americans also saw their 401(k)s melt down. Some have never recovered and neither has the economy because the ignorant, as well as those who do understand the problem with fractional banking and fiat currency, did not address the cancer; the exception was former Congressman Ron Paul. All they did was cover it up with hundreds of billions of illegal (unconstitutional) bail outs. That didn't cure the cancer, it's only allowed it to metastasize.

The Republicans held both houses of Congress for more than a decade, eight years with a Republican president. They ran us into massive, mostly unconstitutional unpayable debt. No where in the U.S. Constitution does Congress have the authority to act as a bank, make loans or bail out bankrupt cities. NONE. Those "conservative" Republicans again took the House, the keeper of the people's purse in 2010. Has the unconstitutional rape stopped? A gigantic cauldron of witches brew that has taken us past the point of no return. I can tell you John and I have been practicing austerity for just about the entire time I've been an activist. No vacations (our last vacation was 1991), no new clothes unless it's for a special ocassion like my daughter's wedding, no luxury spending. Of course this hurts the economy, but it's about survival. I've known the day would come when America's financial house would implode along with the dollar. The "Fed" can't keep propping up the magical money machine. The global elites have been looting America longer than I've been alive; our carcass is just about picked bone dry. Get prepared emotionally and financially as best you can and don't forget to help elderly parents and other family members if they don't know what's nearly upon us.
While the liars in Washington, DC tell us the economy is a wee bit slow, look at the inflation at the grocery store: $2.78 for one bunch of organic spinach. Free range ground sirloin beef almost $7.00 a pound; free range chicken $4.25 a pound; $3.25 for a dozen cage free, chemical free eggs. As the value of the dollar in your wallet continues to shrink, the purchasing power goes down. Food Price Inflation Scares the Fed - it is the central bank that causes inflation, booms and busts, recessions and depressions while the thieves in the Outlaw Congress continue to ignore the head of the beast.
The states are drowning in pension obligations they cannot pay; nearly $5 TRILLION dollars. Cities that can't keep up with pension obligations and tax shortfalls because unemployed folks don't pay most taxes except for sales tax on purchases. Expert: Expect More Cities to Face Bankruptcy. The cost of dealing with liars, cheat and thieves (illegal aliens) costing cities, counties and states hundreds of billions of dollars every year: llegals Bankrupting Small Towns in Border States. The criminal impostor in the White House wants $2 billion dollars to deal with the latest surge. When your checkbook is overdrawn $17.5 TRILLION dollars, where do you get another $2 billion? Why, borrow it to the tune of $3.4 BILLION dollars a DAY. But, what happens when the countries you're borrowing from run dry? Who do we go begging to next and at what cost?

It's done. What is rolling across this country cannot be stopped. The crooks as well as the gutless and ignorant in the Outlaw Congress have refused to take the necessary steps to boot the "Fed" putting us all in danger. They have destroyed our most important job sectors: industrial, manufacturing and agriculture via destructive, unconstitutional "free" trade treaties turning America into a dying service economy. It must be reversed, but Americans are going to go through hell before that can be accomplished.
The arrogant and ignorant in the 50 state capitols have refused to implement a constitutional sound money law. So many of us warned until the (expletive) hit in August 2008, but the masses didn't listen and they still aren't listening. The very worst is closing in on us and when it finally hits as it did in 2008, what's going to happen? Social breakdown? Yes. Food riots. I believe we'll see that in certain parts of the country because (1) people are broke and empty bellies make for angry mobs, and (2) there are serious problems with our food and water supplies.
Americans by the tens of millions are going to be caught off guard when the too big to fail banks which ARE insolvent can't or won't let you clean out your account. The Final Swindle Of Private American Wealth Has Begun: "The financial crash of 2008, the same crash which has been ongoing for years, is NOT an accident. I know many believe the only thing you need are guns and butter, but that's not true. You do need both and real money. The destruction of the U.S. dollar will be the destruction of your money and all the guns in the world won't change that. The only real money is gold. I started recommending people diversify some of their assets into gold and a small amount of silver back in 1998. It isn't practical to cash in your $350,000 401(k) in nothing but silver. The bottom line is paper, as Thomas Jefferson said is poverty and not money itself.
Right now is the best time to buy gold because the cost is going to skyrocket and become difficult to obtain. We know the gold market is heavily manipulated, but things are going to get completely out of control and you don't want to be holding your future and everything you've ever worked for in the form of paper "money". Part II is a list of articles for you to read. I spent many hours putting together this column and the Appendix for you. The most credible and informational so you can understand just how dire the situation is; future planning simply can't be put off - not at this point in time.

What Economic Recovery?

President’s continued attack on the economy—which includes a massive increase in illegal immigration—the nation’s economy will remain tenuous

You have to know that the Obama administration has run out of excuses for destroying the U.S. economy when it starts to blame it on the weather.
According to the Commerce Department, the economy based on its Gross domestic product—the value of its goods and services—fell at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 2.9% in the first quarter of this year. That was the largest recorded drop since the end of World War II in 1945!
The June 20 edition of The Wall Street Journal’s article, "Economy Shrank Rapidly in First Quarter" led off by reporting that "Weather disruptions at home and weak demand abroad caused a contraction in the U.S. economy in the first quarter, renewing doubts about the strength of the nation’s five-year-old recovery."
What recovery? When the economy stays in the basement for five years you are looking at an on-going stagnation based on too much government interference with growth, the decline of the nation’s middle class, the lack of new start-up businesses, and the reluctance or inability of consumers to spend money, if they have any to spend.
In May, writing on his blog, Economic Collapse, Michael Synder pointed to "27 Huge Red Flags for the U.S. Economy" noting, for example, that according to government numbers, "everyone is unemployed in 20 percent of all American families." The other indicators include:
Sales for construction equipment were down 13% in April and have been down for 17 months in a row.
During the first quarter of 2014, profits at the office supplies giant, Staples, fell by 43.5%
Foot traffic at Wal-Mart stores fell by 1.4% during the first quarter of 2014.
It is being projected that Sears will soon close hundreds more stores and may go out of business altogether.
Existing home sales have fallen for seven of the last eight months and seem to be repeating a pattern witnessed back in 2007 prior to the last financial crash.
The home ownership rate in the U.S. has dropped to the lowest level in 19 years.

You do not have to be an economist to understand that President Obama’s economic policies are flat-out failures that include a "stimulus" that wasted billions of taxpayer dollars without stimulating the economy, nor that having a $17 trillion debt means anything other than a nation teetering on a massive economic collapse.
In May, CNS News reported that "A record 92,594,000 Americans were not in the labor force in April as the labor force participation rate matched a 36-year low of 62.8 percent, according to data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics."
This is not my definition of a "recession" although we are told that it ended in 2009. This is a "depression" for millions of Americans. The labor force participation rate has gone from 63.5% to 63.3%, the lowest since 1979, but the Obama administration keeps telling us that it is "improving."
Consumer spending is down. Exports are down. Employment is barely increasing. The only thing that is up is inflation.
Edward C. Prescott, a 2004 Nobel Laureate in Economics, and Lee E. Ohanian, a professor of economics UCLA, writing in the June 26 edition of The Wall Street Journal, noted that the declining GDP rate was "the worst productivity statistic since 1990. And productivity since 2005 has declined by more than 8% relative to its long-run trend. This means that business output is nearly $1 trillion less today than what it would be had productivity continued to grow at its average rate of about 2.5% per year."
"Lagging productivity growth is an enormous problem because virtually all of the increase in Americans’ standard of living is made possible by rising worker productivity."
The Obama administration would have you believe that the economic decline in the first quarter was due to a harsh winter. They will be blaming it on a hot summer come autumn.
This is an administration whose main theme these days is the threat of "climate change", but it has nothing to do with the climate and everything to do with vast government spending and borrowing, an explosion of regulations that have slowed or stopped the creation of new businesses; a "war on coal" that is forcing a decline in the production of electricity, and a widespread perception that the President is the worst to have held office since the nation began.
There is no recovery. There is a return to the factors that led to the 2008 financial crisis. Government entities Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that bought up all the sub-prime mortgage loans and packaged them as assets are still in business. Credit card companies are reaching out to sub-prime users, signing them up. Nobody seems to learn anything from the past, even if it is the recent past.
If the control of the U.S. Senate cannot be wrested away from a Democratic Party, led by Harry Reid, and a GOP increase in the U.S. House that was led by Nancy Pelosi until the 2010 elections cannot be achieved in the forthcoming November elections, the President’s continued attack on the economy—which includes a massive increase in illegal immigration—the nation’s economy will remain tenuous.

Impeachment is the only procedural mechanism in the American system of government that can be used to remove from office a president who has willfully abused his executive power under the Constitution.
Technically there are other extraordinary measures that can be taken, but these measures cannot fully address in an expeditious manner the present crisis of executive abuse of power by this president.
In my view the problem we have today is not whether the case can be made for the impeachment of the president, but rather the frivolous arguments made by many commentators and political partisans that prevent us from moving forward. Here are some of these arguments.
I. Impeachment should not proceed because every president uses discretionary power while in office, and therefore every president technically breaks the law.In my view, this is not a legitimate argument. If other presidents have willfully broken the law while they were in office, then they should also have faced impeachment. This failure to impeach past presidents who have acted unlawfully should not be interpreted as a blank check for all future presidents, but rather as a failure of the constitutional process at the time. The current office holder cannot point to the lawless actions of past presidents as a justification for his own lawless actions.
II. This president cannot be impeached because of his raceImpeachment of this president would be interpreted by many in the media and the culture at large as a racist action. If we accept the argument that this president cannot be impeached because of his race, this implies that the rule of law is not universal in its application. Simply put, we are saying the rule of law should apply for some presidents, but not for others. And if this argument holds, then it begs the question: which future presidents should also be exempt from facing impeachment? Should there be a special exemption for the first female president? What if a transgendered person is elected president someday? Should the first transgendered president be made to face impeachment if he/she breaks the law?
My view on the matter is that no president should be above the law for any reason. The rule of law should apply equally to all presidents.
III. The new president would be worsePresident Joe Biden would be a worse president than the current president. Here again the argument is based on speculation and opinion. Whether Joe Biden would be a worse president than Barack Obama is beside the point. The question should be: is president Joe Biden following the rule of law and respecting the constitutional limits of his office? If the answer to this question is yes, then president Biden is a clear improvement from president Obama. If the answer is no, then impeachment should also be on the table for this office holder.
IV. The votes are not there to impeach. This argument is also beside the point. Even if a majority of senators refuse to try the president because they share the same party allegiances as he does, this does not mean that impeachment proceedings are not warranted. If some lawmakers decide to put their party allegiances above the rule of law and the Constitution, then aren’t they themselves guilty of compromising the democratic process and the rule of law?
Even if the impeachment process does not lead to the removal of the president from office, this does not necessarily mean that the process has been a failure. It depends wholly on what the evidence demonstrates. It also sends a clear message to the current president and to all future presidents that the rule of law does matter, and that failure to follow the law has consequences.
Impeachment should proceed if it can be demonstrated that the president has willfully broken the law and abused his powers under the Constitution.
This should be the only criteria by which we judge the actions of the president.

Sleeping Patterns Are Governed by Light

Your biological clock is not the only thing that reminds you to shut eye every 24 hours; a new study has found that it‘s actually light that governs your sleeping patterns
Your eyes use light to reset your biological clock through a mechanism that is separate from your ability to see, researchers at Johns Hopkins University found
Researchers genetically modified laboratory mice so that a particular set of retinal ganglion cells -- the ones that receive input from the rods and cones of the eyes and send information to your brain -- no longer functioned. The mice were still able to use light to see normally, but had great difficulty synchronizing their circadian rhythms to light or dark cycles
The findings suggest that people who have trouble sleeping or seasonal depression may be having a malfunction that is contributing to their inability to detect light, which in turn may adversely affect their biological clocks.

Organisms evolved to adjust themselves to predictable patterns of light and darkness, in a physiological cycle known as the circadian rhythm. Once artificial light effectively varied the length of a day, the average night's sleep decreased from around nine consistent hours to roughly seven, varying from one night to the next
The irregularity prevents circadian rhythms from adjusting to a pattern, and creates a state of permanent "jet lag.
So while electricity and efficient lighting have clearly provided major benefits to society, these benefits come with a price -- the betrayal of your inner clock

Get the Light Out of Your Bedroom
It would serve you well to do a thorough "light check" of your bedroom, as any source of light -- even one as tiny as the green glow from your clock radio -- could be interfering with your ability to sleep, and more importantly, your long term health and risk of developing cancer.
While it’s typically thought that your
biological clock is what tells you when it’s time to wake up or go to sleep, light and dark signals actually control your biological clock. To get more specific, a part of your brain called the Suprachiasmatic Nucleus (SCN) -- a group of cells in your hypothalamus -- controls your biological clock. And the cells that make up your SCN respond to light and dark signals.
Light actually travels through your eye’s optic nerve to your SCN, where it signals your body’s clock that it’s time to wake up. Light also signals your SCN to initiate other processes associated with being awake, such as raising your body temperature and producing hormones like cortisol.
Meanwhile, when your eyes signal to your SCN that it’s dark outside, your body will begin to produce melatonin, a hormone that helps you sleep and radically decreases your risk of cancer. There are many studies on this powerful association. The more your sleep is disrupted by light pollution, the lower your melatonin levels and the greater your risk of developing cancer becomes.
Melatonin is secreted primarily in your brain and at night it triggers a host of biochemical activities, including a nocturnal reduction in your body's estrogen levels. It’s thought that chronically decreasing your melatonin production at night -- as occurs when you’re exposed to nighttime light -- increases your risk of developing cancer.
In fact, one of the first studies linking cancer to light showed that blind women have a 36 percent lower risk of breast cancer compared to sighted women. Why? Because they are unreceptive to light. This means that their bodies maintain high melatonin levels at night regardless of how much light is in the room.
It really is a fascinating system.
What Happens When Your Biological Clock is Disrupted
Your body depends on your biological clock to steadily regulate your sleep/wake cycle, but when this process gets thrown off balance, it can wreak havoc on your health
And it is actually quite easy to disrupt your body clock. For instance, all of the following can confuse your body and make it think you should be awake when you should be sleeping, or vice versa:
Staying up late
Turning on a light in the middle of the night
Switching time zones (jet lag)
Eating in the middle of the night or too close to bedtime
Your body’s internal clocks (you actually have many, in your brain, lungs, liver, heart and even your skeletal muscles) influence so many things -- from your heart rate to body temperature and hormone production -- that when they’re thrown out of whack all kinds of things can happen. For instance, a disrupted body clock may cause you to you gain weight or increase your risk of cancer.
Using Darkness to Help You Sleep
Making simple changes in your bedroom to keep the light out during the night can have a major impact on
your sleep quality. Even the chiropractor at my office, Dr. Lloyd Fielder, was surprised at the benefit when he installed blackout drapes in his bedroom.
He was shocked at how much better he felt -- it radically improved the quality of his sleep. Personally, I sleep in a room that is so dark, it’s even pitch black at noon. You can achieve this in your own bedroom by:
Installing blackout drapes
Closing your bedroom door if light comes through it, and even putting a towel along the base to prevent light from seeping in
Getting rid of your electric clock radio (or at least covering it up at night)
Avoiding night lights of any kind
Keeping all light off at night (even if you get up to go to the bathroom) -- this includes the TV!

About 95 percent of Americans use an electronic device within one hour of going to sleep, according to a National Sleep Foundation poll. Furthermore, nearly all adults (89 percent) and the majority of children (75 percent) have at least one electronic device, such as a television, tablet, or smartphone, in their bedrooms
This has a major implication on the quality of your sleep, in ways you might not even imagine. Certainly, such devices can keep you awake by making noises, but they also interfere with your sleep-wake cycle, or circadian rhythm, in far more insidious, and damaging, ways.
Light from Electronic Gadgets Interferes with Your Sleep
The quality of your sleep has a lot to do with light, both outdoor and indoor lighting, because it serves as the major synchronizer of your master clock. This master clock is a group of cells in your brain called the suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN).
As a group, these nuclei synchronize to the light-dark cycle of your environment when light enters your eye. You also have other biological clocks throughout your body, and those clocks subsequently synchronize to your master clock.
In the non-artificial light environment of our historical past, people experienced greater light exposure only during the day between when the sun rose and when it set. Now with the advent of the light bulb, artificial light, high-definition televisions, and any number of lighted electronic gadgets, we're exposed to a lot more light over a 24-hour period, and a lot less darkness.
This creates a very novel situation for your internal time keeping and the biological pace setting mechanisms of your body; in other words, your circadian rhythms. As reported by the National Sleep Foundation:
"There is robust scientific data documenting the role of light in promoting wakefulness. Photoreceptors in the retina sense light and dark, signaling our brain about the status of the outside world and aligning our circadian rhythms (centered in a small region of the hypothalamus called the suprachiasmatic nucleus) to the external day-night cycle.
This signaling of light and dark helps us to be alert in the morning and be able to fall asleep at the appropriate time at night. The power of light as an alerting agent is easily conceptualized when we think of the sun, but may be more difficult to appreciate when considering the light emitted from a tablet or smartphone."
Even the Small Amount of Light Emitted by Your Smartphone Can Keep You Awake 
 
Normally, your brain starts progressively increasing the hormone melatonin around 9 pm or 10 pm, which makes you sleepy. This helps regulate your sleep cycle as well as provide other important health benefits, including helping to prevent cancer.Melatonin acts as a marker of your circadian phase or biological timing. In a nutshell, this hormone influences what time of day or night your body thinks it is, regardless of what time the clock on the wall displays.Somewhere between 50-1,000 lux is the activation range within which light will begin to suppress melatonin production. However, wavelength is important here as red and amber lights will not suppress melatonin while blue, green, and white lights will. So if you use a clock in your bedroom, make sure it has red LEDs.
Melatonin is a regulator of your sleep cycle, and when it is suppressed, there is less stimulation to promote sleepiness at a healthy bedtime. This contributes to people staying up later and missing valuable sleep, as well as missing out on melatonin's health potential (research indicates it also helps protect your brain health and fights against cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's, heart disease, and more).
Whether you have the light on for an hour or for just a second, the effect is the same. It would be nice if your melatonin production resumed when you flip the light back off, but unfortunately, it doesn't. So remember, when you turn the light on at night, you are seriously short changing your melatonin production. Not to obsess about it, but certainly don't make it a regular pattern.

One 2011 study compared daily melatonin profiles in individuals living in room light (<200 i="" lux="">vs
. dim light (<3 font="" lux=""> Results showed that, compared with dim light, exposure to room light before bedtime suppressed melatonin in 99 percent of individuals, and shortened the time period when the body has an elevated melatonin level by about 90 minutes.
Furthermore, exposure to room light during the usual hours of sleep suppressed melatonin by more than 50 percent. Even the light from your computer screen or smartphone is enough to interfere with your circadian rhythm and melatonin production. Computer screens and most light bulbs emit blue light, to which your eyes are particularly sensitive simply because it's the type of light most common outdoors during daytime hours. As a result, they can easily disrupt your melatonin production and keep you awake. Research shows, for instance:
Children who use electronic media at night go to bed later, get fewer hours of sleep per week, and report more daytime sleepiness Adolescents with a television in their bedroom go to bed later, have more difficulty falling asleep, and have a shorter total sleep time.
Sending texts or e-mails after initially going to bed increases daytime sleepiness among teens (even if it's done only once a week).

Cmputer and Cell Phone Use Before Bed Linked to Insomnia
The research is quite clear that people who use their computer for playing, surfing, or reading on the Web, or those who use their smartphones for the same purpose, as well as texting, are more likely to report symptoms of insomnia. This is an enemy to your sleep for multiple reasons, in addition to the problems with light exposure explained above. It can be difficult, for instance, to slow your mind down after surfing the Web, leading to racing thoughts when you should be in slumber.
Plus, when you're connected to the Internet, your phone or computer are communicating with nearby cell towers, which means they're also emitting low levels of radiation.
One 2008 study revealed that people exposed to radiation from their mobile phones for three hours before bedtime had more trouble falling asleep and staying in a deep sleep.

People Who Turn Off Their Gadgets Report Excellent Sleep
According to the 2014 Sleep in America Poll, 53 percent of respondents who turn electronics off while sleeping rate their sleep as excellent, compared to just 27 percent of those who leave their devices on. This is why I recommend avoiding watching TV or using a computer or tablet at least an hour or so before going to bed.
An alternative, you can try a free computer program called f.lux (see JustGetFlux.com), which alters the color temperature of your computer screen as the day goes on, pulling out the blue wavelengths as it gets late. You can also wear yellow-tinted glasses, which block the blue wavelengths of light.

Since humans evolved in the glow of firelight, yellow, orange, and red wavelengths don't suppress melatonin production the way white and blue wavelengths do. In fact, the range of light that inhibits melatonin is fairly narrow — 460 to 480 nm. If you want to protect your melatonin, when the sun goes down you would shift to a low-wattage bulb with yellow, orange or red light. Dr. Russel Reiter suggests using a salt lamp illuminated by a 5-watt bulb in this color range.
Remember, You Can't Cheat Sleep

…at least, not without consequences. You can have the healthiest diet on the planet, doing vegetable juicing and using fermented veggies, be as fit as an Olympic athlete, be emotionally balanced, but if you aren't sleeping well, it is just a matter of time before it will adversely, potentially seriously affect your health. Sleep deprivation is such a chronic condition these days that you might not even realize you suffer from it. Science has now established that a sleep deficit can have serious, far-reaching effects on your health, and once you're deficient, lost sleep can be difficult to "make up." For example, interrupted or impaired sleep can:
Dramatically weaken your immune system
Accelerate tumor growth—tumors grow two to three times faster in laboratory animals with severe sleep dysfunctions, primarily due to disrupted melatonin production. Melatonin inhibits the proliferation of a wide range of cancer cell types, as well as triggering cancer cell apoptosis (self-destruction). The hormone also interferes with the new blood supply tumors require for their rapid growth (angiogenesis)
Cause a pre-diabetic state, making you feel hungry even if you've already eaten, which can wreak havoc on your weight
Seriously impair your memory; even a single night of poor sleep—meaning sleeping only 4 to 6 hours—can impact your ability to think clearly the next day. It's also known to decrease your problem solving ability
Earlier this year, I interviewed Dan Pardi on the topic of how to get restorative, health-promoting sleep. Pardi is a researcher who works with the Behavioral Sciences Department at Stanford University and the Departments of Neurology and Endocrinology at Leiden University in the Netherlands. According to Pardi, the following three factors are key to determining how restorative your sleep is:
Duration—i.e. the number of hours you sleep. Sleep requirements are highly individual, and can change from one day to the next, depending on factors like stress, physical exertion, illness, and pregnancy, just to name a few. But, on average, most people need about eight hours of sleep per night.
Timing—i.e. the habit of going to bed at approximately the same time each night. Even if the duration of sleep is the same, when the timing of your sleep is shifted, it's not going to be as restorative.
Intensity—This has to do with the different stages that your brain and body goes through over the course of the night, the sequence of them, and how those stages are linked.
Some medications will suppress certain phases of sleep, and certain conditions like sleep apnea will lead to fragmented sleep. With these scenarios, even if you're sleeping for an adequate duration and have consistent timing, your sleep will not be as restorative.
One of the easiest ways to gauge whether you've slept enough is to assess your level of sleepiness the next day. For example, if you had the opportunity, would you be able to take a nap? Do you need caffeine to keep you going? Answering yes to these two questions would indicate you need more and/or better sleep.
How to Get a Truly Restful Night's Sleep
Small adjustments to your daily routine and sleeping area can go a long way to ensure uninterrupted, restful sleep. I suggest you read through my full set of 33 healthy sleep guidelines for all of the details, but to start, consider implementing the following changes. Number one on my list? Turn off your electronic gadgets and keep them out of your bedroom:
Avoid watching TV or using your computer/smartphone or tablet in the evening, at least an hour or so before going to bed.
Make sure you get BRIGHT sun exposure regularly. Your pineal gland produces melatonin roughly in approximation to the contrast of bright sun exposure in the day and complete darkness at night. If you are in darkness all day long, it can't appreciate the difference and will not optimize your melatonin production.
Get some sun in the morning. Your circadian system needs bright light to reset itself. Ten to 15 minutes of morning sunlight will send a strong message to your internal clock that day has arrived, making it less likely to be confused by weaker light signals during the night.
Sleep in complete darkness, or as close to it as possible. Even the tiniest glow from your clock radio could be interfering with your sleep, so cover your clock radio up at night or get rid of it altogether. Move all electrical devices at least three feet away from your bed. You may want to cover your windows with drapes or blackout shades, or wear an eye mask when you sleep.
Install a low-wattage yellow, orange, or red light bulb if you need a source of light for navigation at night. Light inthese bandwidths does not shut down melatonin production in the way that white and blue bandwidth light does. Salt lamps are handy for this purpose.
Keep the temperature in your bedroom no higher than 70 degrees F. Many people keep their homes too warm (particularly their upstairs bedrooms). Studies show that the optimal room temperature for sleep is between 60 to 68 degrees F.
Take a hot bath 90 to 120 minutes before bedtime. This increases your core body temperature, and when you get out of the bath it abruptly drops, signaling your body that you are ready to sleep.
Avoid using loud alarm clocks. Being jolted awake eachmorning can be very stressful. If you are regularly getting enough sleep,you might not even need an alarm.
Be mindful of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in your bedroom. EMFs can disrupt your pineal gland and its melatonin production, and may have other negative biological effects as well. A gauss meter is required if you want to measure EMF levels in various areas of your home.
