Self-made millionaire Isabella Barrett reveals how she made her money - aged just NINE
By Nora Hakramaj
16 May 2016
The youngster made her name on hit shows Toddlers and Tiaras and has already launched her own clothing and jewelry line

Self-made millionaire Isabella Barrett enjoys splashing the cash on designer shoes and expensive labels - despite being just nine years old.
Isabella lives a life of luxury, being chauffeur driven to her favourite shopping haunts, dining on fresh lobster and attending parties with her socialite friends.
But despite the high heels, heavy make-up and bulging shopping bags, Isabella is still in primary school.
Isabella became a millionaire at just six years old after launching her own clothing and jewelry line.
Isabella's mum, Susanna, said: "As far as what she's worth tangible you know, it would probably be equal to several million dollars.
"The great thing is, she is still nine and so as her money grows, we hope to invest it and make that grow as well for her.
"Bella has two companies that she has equity investment; she is a stakeholder in both companies.

"So she is the major stakeholder in 'Glitzy Girl', which was our first company that came out. The second company was 'Bound By the Crown Couture'."
Isabella shot to fame after appearing on American TV show Toddlers and Tiaras.
Now the fashion-obsessed young socialite has over 1.6 million online followers and considers herself a successful businesswoman in her own right; that she has equity investment; she is a stakeholder in both companies.

Isabella's prized possessions are her 60 pairs of shoes and her 14 Juicy Couture tracksuits - which she bought in one day after closing down the store.
Isabella, from Rhode Island, America, said: "My clothing line is very successful.

"It's in a lot of fashion s "It was so much fun because I walked down the runway and all the lights hit me and I was so pretty."
But being a young entrepreneur is not achieved without sacrifice, how it was just recently in New York fashion week which was the biggest.

Isabella said: "My life is very busy and sometimes I have to miss gymnastic because I have to go on jobs, on auditions and stuff like that."
Isabella first got into beauty pageants when her sister, Victoria, now 22, was bullied at school.
Susanna said: "My older daughter was beaten and left for dead on the side of the road.

Isabella Barrett loves having her hair styled
"She had to have reconstructive surgery on her face; her nose was pushed in by two children who used to sleep in my house growing up - her best friends.
"The pageants helped to rebuild her confidence and when Bella saw the glitz and glamour she wanted to be part of it."
Susanna has faced some criticism online from people who say she spoils Isabella, but the 43-year-old doesn't see splashing out as a bad thing.

Susanna said: "I've spoilt both of my kids. In terms of spoilt, do I think she is going to run around and be a brat and throw things at people's faces? No - because she wasn't raised that way.
"She definitely has expensive tastes but that's because our family appreciates quality - it's not because of the fame."
Susanna has also faced criticism for allowing her daughter wear makeup at a young age.

She said: "People ask how I could out her in pageant outfits and let her wear makeup and heels but I think I've done a very good job - her manners are impeccable. She loves her work."
In addition to her clothing line, Bella has also produced two songs called "LOL" and "I'm Just a Kid", and is currently recording two more songs.
Susanna added: "I hope that she can all of those things, be a teacher, be a rockstar.
"I want her to be whatever she wants to be. As a mom, that's all what you want for kids - just be happy.”

Tampa Couple Arrested After They Use Taser to Discipline Teen
By Ellen Tumposky
Feb. 24, 2011
A Florida couple who allegedly tasered a 13-year-old boy in their care to discipline him have been charged with child abuse, Tampa police said.
Christopher Lewis, 22, and Deonijhane "Amy" Menifield, 19, were arrested earlier this week, Tampa police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor said. She said Lewis was a relative of the victim, a 13-year-old boy whose name is not being released for confidentiality reasons, and was taking care of him.
Lewis had bought the stun gun about a week before the arrest, police said. "Since that time, both suspects have been using the stun gun as a form of discipline against the victim," according to a police statement.
"The 13-year-old boy told one of the employees at his school what was going on, and the employee called the police," McGregor said. "We noticed visible marks on the boy that were consistent with his story." The teenager had been tasered on his upper thigh, cops said.
Lewis and Menifield were arrested at their Tampa home on Tuesday and were both charged with child abuse. Lewis also faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon. Police said that when they arrested him, he was carrying a 12-inch hunting knife in his jacket.
A neighbor, Frances Helms, told ABC affiliate WFTS-TV that she watches the victim and saw the marks on the boy's arms this week. "It looked like a burn mark," said Helms.
"It's terrible, I would never treat a son of mine like that. It shouldn't be that way," she said.
Lewis told the station the teenager was his brother and denied using the stun gun on him. Police would not confirm the exact relationship between Lewis and the child.
Stun guns, originally developed for use by police, have been abused by private citizens in other recent incidents around the country. Last year in New Hampshire a couple were charged with using a stun gun on their three children, and in Jacksonville, Fla., a mother was charged with battery after she zapped a football coach with a stun gun during an argument.
It is legal in the state of Florida for ordinary citizens to possess stun guns, according to Deputy Dave Burney of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, as long as the guns are hand-held and do not have a "projectile device," which only police can use.

Temiskaming doctor performed unnecessary operations
Report from Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons says some patients of Dr. John Pariag exposed to harm
CBC News
Posted: Nov 02, 2012
A surgeon at Temiskaming Hospital repeatedly put patients at risk, says an investigation report made public Friday.
The report detailed how Dr. John Pariag performed surgeries that weren't necessary — and others he wasn't trained to do.
Pariag worked at the Temiskaming Hospital in New Liskeard between 2006 and 2009.
Investigators with the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons said it's "striking" that Pariag exposed at least 22 patients to harm in that short time period.
The report made public Friday showed Pariag:
Misdiagnosed a 12-year-old girl and performed surgery on her that wasn't needed.
Removed a healthy appendix from three different patients.
Left a surgical sponge inside one woman and then operated on her again to get it out, without telling her why.
Investigators said Pariag told them he wasn't happy in Temiskaming, that he didn't get the $20,000 signing bonus he was promised and found the workload at the small hospital "onerous."
Pariag has been disciplined by the college of physicians but is reportedly still practising in the Toronto area.

Mississauga surgeon hit with 9 lawsuits
Dr. John Pariag is still practising despite the College’s finding of 21 cases of misconduct.
By Marco Chown Ovid, Staff Reporter
Wed., Dec. 26, 2012

Dr. John Pariag stands outside the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario after his malpractice hearing last month.  (TORONTO STAR / MARCO CHOWN OVED)

A Mississauga surgeon allowed to continue practising after admitting to 21 cases of incompetence and professional misconduct has been sued at least nine times for a total of over $7.5 million, documents show.

The civil cases filed against Dr. John Pariag provide details of the surgical mistakes he’s accused of making during his past tenure as a general surgeon in a New Liskeard hospital. Six of the nine cases obtained by the Star have been settled out of court and three cases are ongoing.

In one case yet to be settled, Jack McVey alleges in a statement of claim that Pariag severed two arteries in the process of removing his appendix. As McVey bled, he was emergency-airlifted to Sudbury, where he underwent life-saving surgery.

In another, Cheryl Bakhuis claims that when she had keyhole surgery in her abdomen, Pariag cut open her bladder and damaged arteries. Her case is also ongoing.

“We had an out-of-control doctor here … nobody was doing anything,” another former patient from Haileybury, Mike Camp, told the Star. He sued after what he says was a bowel puncture and unnecessary removal of his appendix. His case was settled, though he wouldn’t discuss details.

Claims made in the other lawsuits include:

 • An elderly man died not long after Pariag botched two operations on his intestines that left internal leaks. That case was settled.

 • During an operation to remove a goiter, Pariag damaged an artery in the patient’s neck, causing him to bleed internally. That lawsuit was also resolved.

• Sponges twice left in patients after surgery. One of those cases was settled.

None of the allegations has been proven in court and, in the cases where he filed a statement of defence, Pariag denied any negligence or wrongdoing. Repeated attempts to reach Pariag and his lawyer have gone unanswered.

“Incompetence” and “professional misconduct” on Pariag’s part have been officially recognized on three occasions.
He first had his privileges restricted by Temiskaming Hospital in May 2009. In July 2010, Pariag was restricted from performing surgery anywhere in the province by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
In March this year, the College’s Discipline Committee found that Pariag had committed 21 acts of professional misconduct. The penalty has not yet been handed down.
Pariag still consults patients at the Advanced Multi-Specialty Clinic on the Queensway in Mississauga.
“It is extremely rare for a doctor to lose their licence as a result of incompetence, even where there is gross negligence,” said Paul Harte, a medical malpractice lawyer in Toronto.
“Given that the College’s primary mandate is to protect the public, you would expect many, many more licence revocations,” Harte wrote in an email.
Complaints about Pariag first came forward while he was working as a general surgeon at Temiskaming Hospital in northern Ontario between October 2006 and July 2009.
In the statement of claim in one $500,000 suit, it is alleged that Pariag left a sponge inside Carol Plante following a 2008 operation to remove polyps from her colon.
In a letter to the Star, Plante’s daughter Cathy said the suit was settled for $10,000. Carol died of cancer earlier this year.
“I am in disbelief that he will not lose his licence,” Cathy Plante wrote.
McVey’s claim alleges that during a routine appendix removal in 2008, Pariag severed two arteries that caused internal bleeding. McVey was airlifted to Sudbury for emergency surgery to save his life.
“Not only were arteries cut but … the subsequent repair attempt by Dr. Pariag made matters worse,” McVey alleges in his $1 million lawsuit.
McVey developed pneumonia, kidney failure and at least five abdominal hernias as a result of the surgeries and the length of time spent under anesthetic, the statement of claim alleges.
Pariag contests McVey’s claims in the ongoing case.
In his statement of defence, Pariag’s lawyer, Paul Millican, writes that “Dr. Pariag appropriately performed a laparoscopic appendectomy.”
When bleeding was discovered after the surgery, Pariag did a second operation to stop it. The next day, McVey was bleeding again and was “transferred to a vascular surgeon.”
The statement of defence adds that “any damages sustained by the Plaintiff … were not the result of any act, omission, breach of duty or want of care on the part of (Pariag).”
Pariag’s future as a doctor rides on the College Discipline Committee penalty expected in the coming weeks.
At a hearing last week, the panel suggested Pariag be allowed to continue consulting patients, without performing surgery, as long as he notifies them in writing of the restrictions on his medical licence.
