It’s Official: Americans R Stupid
By Michael Snyder
Global Research, March 17, 2015

http://www.globalresearch.ca/its-official-americans-r-stupid/5437181
As Americans, we tend to be pretty full of ourselves, and this is especially true of our young people.  But do we really have reason for such pride?  According to a shocking new report from the Educational Testing Service, Americans between the ages of 20 and 34 are way behind young adults in other industrialized nations when it comes to literacy, mathematics and technological proficiency.  Even though more Americans than ever are going to college, we continue to fall farther and farther behind intellectually.  So what does this say about us?  Sadly, the truth is that Americans are stupid.  Our education system is an abysmal failure, and our young people spend most of their free time staring at the television, their computers or their mobile devices.  And until we are honest with ourselves about this, our intellectual decline is going to get even worse.
According to this new report from the Educational Testing Service, at this point American Millennials that have a four year college degree are essentially on the same intellectual level as young adults in Japan, Finland and the Netherlands that only have a high school degree…
Americans born after 1980 are lagging their peers in countries ranging from Australia to Estonia, according to a new report from researchers at the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The study looked at scores for literacy and numeracy from a test called the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies, which tested the abilities of people in 22 countries.
The results are sobering, with dire implications for America. It hints that students may be falling behind not only in their early educational years but at the college level. Even though more Americans between the ages of 20 to 34 are achieving higher levels of education, they’re still falling behind their cohorts in other countries. In Japan, Finland and the Netherlands, young adults with only a high school degree scored on par with American Millennials holding four-year college degrees, the report said.
How in the world is that possible?
I can tell you how that is possible – our colleges are a joke.  But more on that in a moment.
Out of 22 countries, the report from the Educational Testing Service found that Americans were dead last in tech proficiency.  We were also dead last in numeracy and only two countries performed worse than us when it came to literacy proficiency…
Half of American Millennials score below the minimum standard of literacy proficiency. Only two countries scored worse by that measure: Italy (60 percent) and Spain (59 percent). The results were even worse for numeracy, with almost two-thirds of American Millennials failing to meet the minimum standard for understanding and working with numbers. That placed U.S. Millennials dead last for numeracy among the study’s 22 developed countries.
It is in this type of environment that Coca-Cola can be marketed to Americans as “a healthy snack“.
As I mentioned above, our system of education is one of the biggest culprits.  From the first grade all the way through post-graduate education, the quality of education that our young people are receiving is absolutely pathetic.  In a previous article, I highlighted some statistics from USA Today about the declining state of college education in America…
-“After two years in college, 45% of students showed no significant gains in learning; after four years, 36% showed little change.”
-“Students also spent 50% less time studying compared with students a few decades ago”
-“35% of students report spending five or fewer hours per week studying alone.”
-“50% said they never took a class in a typical semester where they wrote more than 20 pages”
-“32% never took a course in a typical semester where they read more than 40 pages per week.”
I have sat in many of these kinds of college courses.  It doesn’t take much brain power to pass the multiple choice tests that most college professors give these days.  The truth is that if you fail out of college you really, really have to try hard.
In another previous article I shared some examples of real courses that have been taught at U.S. universities in recent years…
-“What If Harry Potter Is Real?”
-“Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame”
-“Philosophy And Star Trek”
-“Learning From YouTube”
-“How To Watch Television”
-“Oh, Look, a Chicken!”
This is a national crisis.  Parents should be screaming bloody murder about the quality of the education that their children are receiving.  But because very few of them actually know what is going on, they just continue to write out huge tuition checks all the time believing that their kids are being prepared for the real world.
To show how “dumbed down” we have become, I want to share with you a copy of an eighth grade exam from 1912 that was donated to the Bullitt County History Museum in Kentucky.
Would eighth grade students be able to pass such an exam today?
Would college students?
As you look over this exam from 1912, ask yourself how you would do on it…
In addition, I find it very interesting that the reading level of the State of the Union addresses delivered by our presidents has steadily declined since the inception of this nation.
And it should be no surprise that Barack Obama’s State of the Union addresses have been some of the dumbest of all.
But could it be possible that I am being too harsh?
After all, scientists are now discovering that our diminishing intellectual capabilities are actually the consequence of natural processes.
For example, a Stanford University biology professor named Gerald R. Crabtree has published two papers in which he detailed his conclusion that humans have been getting dumber for thousands of years…
Are humans becoming smarter or more stupid? Comparing our modern lives and technology with that of any preceding generation, one might think we are becoming increasingly smarter. But, in two papers published in Trends in Genetics, Gerald R. Crabtree of Stanford University claims that we are losing mental capacity and have been doing so for 2,000–6,000 years! The reason, Crabtree concludes, is due to genetic mutations—which are the backbone of neo-Darwinian evolution.
Why is this happening?
Professor Crabtree believes that this loss of intellectual capability is due to the accumulation of errors in our genes…
Based on data produced by the 1000 Genomes Project Consortium and two recent papers in Nature, Crabtree estimates in the first article that, in the past 3,000 years (approximately 120 generations), about 5,000 new mutations have occurred in the genes governing our intellectual ability. He claims most of these mutations will have no effect, while about 2–5 percent are deleterious and “a vanishingly small fraction will increase fitness.” Crabtree bases his conclusion that humankind is losing mental capacity on the ratio between the deleterious and the beneficial mutations.
Our DNA is mutating, and it has been for thousands of years.  And no, those mutations are not helping us.  Each one of us has tens of thousands of errors in our DNA that we have inherited, and we will add even more errors which we will pass on to future generations.
Given enough time, many scientists believe that humanity would eventually degenerate into a bunch of gibbering idiots incapable of rational thought.
Or could it be possible that a large segment of the population has already arrived at that state?

US adults are dumber than the average human
By Associated Press
October 8, 2013
WASHINGTON — It’s long been known that America’s school kids haven’t measured well compared with international peers. Now, there’s a new twist: Adults don’t either.
In math, reading and problem-solving using technology – all skills considered critical for global competitiveness and economic strength – American adults scored below the international average on a global test, according to results released Tuesday.
Adults in Japan, Canada, Australia, Finland and multiple other countries scored significantly higher than the United States in all three areas on the test. Beyond basic reading and math, respondents were tested on activities such as calculating mileage reimbursement due to a salesman, sorting email and comparing food expiration dates on grocery store tags.
Not only did Americans score poorly compared to many international competitors, the findings reinforced just how large the gap is between the nation’s high- and low-skilled workers and how hard it is to move ahead when your parents haven’t.
In both reading and math, for example, those with college-educated parents did better than those whose parents did not complete high school.
The study, called the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies, found that it was easier on average to overcome this and other barriers to literacy overseas than in the United States.
Researchers tested about 166,000 people ages 16 to 65 in more than 20 countries and subnational regions. The test was developed and released by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which is made up of mostly industrialized member countries. The Education Department’s Center for Education Statistics participated.
The findings were equally grim for many European countries – Italy and Spain, among the hardest hit by the recession and debt crisis, ranked at the bottom across generations. Unemployment is well over 25 percent in Spain and over 12 percent in Italy. Spain has drastically cut education spending, drawing student street protests.
But in the northern European countries that have fared better, the picture was brighter – and the study credits continuing education. In Finland, Denmark, and the Netherlands, more than 60 percent of adults took part in either job training or continuing education. In Italy, by contrast, the rate was half that.
As the American economy sputters along and many people live paycheck-to-paycheck, economists say a highly-skilled workforce is key to economic recovery. The median hourly wage of workers scoring on the highest level in literacy on the test is more than 60 percent higher than for workers scoring at the lowest level, and those with low literacy skills were more than twice as likely to be unemployed.
“It’s not just the kids who require more and more preparation to get access to the economy, it’s more and more the adults don’t have the skills to stay in it,” said Anthony Carnevale, director of the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce.
Education Secretary Arne Duncan said in a statement the nation needs to find ways to reach more adults to upgrade their skills. Otherwise, he said, “no matter how hard they work, these adults will be stuck, unable to support their families and contribute fully to our country.”
Among the other findings:
-Americans scored toward the bottom in the category of problem solving in a technology rich environment. The top five scores in the areas were from Japan, Finland, Australia, Sweden and Norway, while the US score was on par with England, Estonia, Ireland and Poland. In nearly all countries, at least 10 percent of adults lacked the most basic of computer skills such as using a mouse.
-Japanese and Dutch adults who were ages 25 to 34 and only completed high school easily outperformed Italian or Spanish university graduates of the same age.
-In England, Germany, Italy, Poland, and the United States, social background has a big impact on literacy skills, meaning the children of parents with low levels of education have lower reading skills.
America’s school kids have historically scored low on international assessment tests compared to other countries, which is often blamed on the diversity of the population and the high number of immigrants. Also, achievement tests have long shown that a large chunk of the US student population lacks basic reading and math skills – most pronounced among low-income and minority students.
This test could suggest students leaving high school without certain basic skills aren’t obtaining them later on the job or in an education program.
The United States will have a tough time catching up because money at the state and local level, a major source of education funding, has been slashed in recent years, said Jacob Kirkegaard, an economist with the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
“There is a race between man and machine here. The question here is always: Are you a worker for whom technology makes it possible to do a better job or are you a worker that the technology can replace?” he said. For those without the most basic skills, he said, the answer will be merciless and has the potential to extend into future generations. Learning is highly correlated with parents’ education level.
“If you want to avoid having an underclass – a large group of people who are basically unemployable – this educational system is absolutely key,” Kirkegaard said.
Dolores Perin, professor of psychology and education at Teachers College, Columbia University, said the report provides a “good basis for an argument there should be more resources to support adults with low literacy.”
Adults can learn new skills at any age and there are adult-geared programs around the country, Perin said. But, she said, the challenge is ensuring the programs have quality teaching and that adults regularly attend classes.
“If you find reading and writing hard, you’ve been working hard all day at two jobs, you’ve got a young child, are you actually going to go to class? It’s challenging,” Perin said.
Some economists say that large skills gap in the United States could matter even more in the future. America’s economic competitors like China and India are simply larger than competitors of the past like Japan, Carnevale said. Even while America’s top 10 percent of students can compete globally, Carnevale said, that doesn’t cut it. China and India did not participate in this assessment.“The skills in the middle are required and we’re not producing them,” Carnevale said.
Respondents were selected as part of a nationally represented sample. The test was primarily taken at home using a computer, but some respondents used a printed test booklet.
Among the other findings:
-Japan, Finland, Canada, Netherlands, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Flanders-Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, and Korea all scored significantly higher than the United States in all three areas on the test.
-The average scores in literacy range from 250 in Italy to 296 in Japan. The US average score was 270. (500 was the highest score in all three areas.) Average scores in 12 countries were higher than the average US score.
-The average scores in math range from 246 in Spain to 288 in Japan. The US average score was 253, below 18 other countries.
-The average scores on problem solving in technology-rich environments ranged from 275 in Poland to 294 in Japan. The US average score was 277, below 14 other countries.

Rick Perry: Obama ‘Corroded Our Military’
'We're going to have to clean this mess up'
By: Elizabeth Harrington
July 20, 2016
CLEVELAND, Ohio—Former Texas governor Rick Perry said President Obama has “corroded our military” in remarks at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday.
Perry devoted his speech at an event hosted by FRC Action and the Susan B. Anthony List to veterans’ issues, saying he trusts Republican nominee Donald Trump to put veterans first if he is elected president.
“Today I don’t think we are where we need to be,” Perry said. “We’re not where we need to be with those active-duty military men and women. The current administration has corroded our military.”
“They corroded them from the standpoint of the financial side, from the leadership side, and they’ve corroded it with rules of engagement that send the message to those young men and women, ‘Listen, we may put your life in jeopardy so that we can be politically correct,’” he said. “It is time to send a powerful message and say, ‘No more.’”
Perry, who served five years as an Air Force pilot, said restoring a strong military that “projects our power” is the number one issue facing the country.
Most of Perry’s remarks focused on the crisis at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He spoke of his special relationship with Marcus Luttrell, the “Lone Survivor” Navy SEAL. Perry befriended Luttrell years ago, helping him recover from the mental and physical effects of his service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“There are thousands, tens of thousands, of young Americans who unfortunately don’t have a governor that can go to bat for them,” Perry said. “Today some 20-plus a day commit suicide, partly because our federal government has failed to live up to its responsibility to these young people, and a veterans administration that has failed them.”
“It is time for America to say ‘no more, we’re not going to take that’ and elect a president of the United States who will surround himself with men and women who understand,” Perry said.
Perry said he is “very confident” Trump will surround himself with advisers who will tackle the failures of the VA.
“You’ve got to have a president of the United States that, every day, gets up and talks to that chief of staff and says, ‘What’s happening today to make sure that our men and women are being taken care of in the best fashion that they can be.’ Every day,” Perry said. “And you put people into those places that will take care of the individuals who deserve and have earned that help. It is time to send that message across this country.
“President Obama failed, failed those veterans,” Perry said. “It’s on his watch. And we’re having to clean this mess up.”
“It’s time for leadership in this country that loves our veterans and shows they’re here for our veterans,” Perry said.

Obama Feasts on Ignorance to Devour Property Rights
If freedom holds any value, we must educate our neighbors to the link between property and human rights, and the dangers of a government that can peel off either on a whim
By John Anthony —— Bio and Archives
June 27, 2016
President Obama is successfully executing the most dangerous seizure of individual choice in our history because Americans are growing blind to the bond between property rights and human rights.
While farm owners surrender their land development rights to governments, federal agencies relocate affordable housing next to million dollar homes, and declare entire neighborhoods discriminatory.
Every one of these acts, according to Washington State Justice Richard Saunders, “annihilates” the value of the property and “renders ownership barren.”
But land value is the beginning. By controlling their land, these governments now control the property owners’ behavior.
Here is an example…
Imagine you see your ‘dream’ car in a dealership, walk in, pay cash and emerge with the gleaming new automobile and title.  You are excited until the salesperson warns, “A federal rule now requires your car be equipped with a GPS system to stop the engine once you reach 35 miles each day.”
This protects the environment, and helps with climate change.” He goes on, “There is no problem, because on Sundays you can drive up to 350 miles!”
Having no choice, you reluctantly agree.
While in the story, you clearly own the car, the government clearly controls it.
By controlling your property, the government controls your behavior and you begin the descent into slavery
However, they control more than your car. A federal agency can now manage when and how often you visit your grandchildren 80 miles away, where you shop for groceries, how far you travel to work and school, and even the method of transportation you use.
By controlling your property, the government controls your behavior and you begin the descent into slavery.  That is what Ayn Rand meant when she said, “Without property rights, there are no human rights.”
By seizing property rights, and therefore human rights, governments expand their power. That is why statists like President Obama have a long history of attacking the importance of personal property rights.  The more the government convinces people their rights are “flexible,” the easier it is to steal them.
In the book, Agency Tyranny, How HUD is Taking Your Property Rights, I quote political historian David Upham who writes…
“Progressives in the twentieth century have in large part aimed at turning the American people away from their traditional attachment to property rights.”
Leftists have gone to bizarre extremes to destroy the importance of property rights
President Franklin Roosevelt swore to Americans that our Founders believed more in socialist programs like his New Deal than in rigid property ownership. He claimed the New Deal was a “fulfillment of old and tested American ideals.”
While campaigning, FDR proclaimed that Thomas Jefferson only held the right of personal opinions as “inviolable” but that all other property rights “should be modified as times and circumstances required.”
Of course, none of this is true. James Madison belies FDR’s remarks in his essay on Property.
“In its larger and juster meaning it [property] embraces everything to which a man may attach a value and have a right…Government is instituted to protect property of every sort,” the Father of the Constitution wrote.
Leftists have gone to bizarre extremes to destroy the importance of property rights.
In “A People’s History of the United States,” historian Howard Zinn blames private property for women’s oppression.
“Societies based on private property and competition, in which monogamous families became practical units for work and socialization, found it especially useful to establish this special status of women, something akin to a house slave in the matter of intimacy and oppression, and yet requiring, because of that intimacy, and long-term connection with children, a special patronization, which on occasion, especially in the face of a show of strength, could slip over into treatment as an equal. An oppression so private would turn out hard to uproot.”
According to the late Zinn, private property is so evil; it turns women into “house slave[s]”!
Zinn’s tortured reasoning has had an immense impact on young Americans’ thinking.  Since its 1980 debut, the book has been a staple in our high schools and sold over 1 million copies.  Actor Matt Damon even quoted from “A People’s History” in his hit movie, “Good Will Hunting.”
Never mind that Zinn, a proven Communist, states in the book’s opening page, “Objectivity is impossible, and it is also undesirable.”
To Zinn, what was “desirable” was the devaluing of free markets and private property.
Generations of Zinn-like teachings have cultivated minds susceptible to Obama’s federal greed. Agencies like HUD, are the governments preferred means of acquisition.
•In 2015, even though the voters of Rockford, IL refused a builder’s proposal to build low-income homes out of crime concerns, the federal government overruled the property owners.
•HUD forced the elected officials of Dubuque, IA to issue Section 8 housing vouchers to Chicago, IL residents over 175 miles away, essentially annexing the community into a HUD-defined Chicago region.
•In June 2016, the President convened a meeting of HUD, the Department of Education and the Department of Transportation to plan methods to relocate low-income families into affluent schools and neighborhoods they cannot afford and where they often do not desire to live.
Even though moves like this commandeer property rights and socially engineer communities into a homogenized federal scheme, choruses of people support the President’s actions.
As long as misinformed Americans provide cover for government expansionists, the programs will advance, while freedoms shrivel.
•In May 2016, HUD Secretary Julian Castro announced that suburban landlords will face legal action for refusing to accept Section 8 vouchers from tenants with criminal records.
•A proposed plan will shuffle low-income families like chess pawns to wealthier neighborhoods. If the poor refuse to move, HUD promises to cut their current voucher payments.
As even HUD residents are learning, uncontrolled government dispenses equal opportunity abuse.
If freedom holds any value, we must educate our neighbors to the link between property and human rights, and the dangers of a government that can peel off either on a whim.

EU’s God-given right to control the masses spreading to North America
In spite of all Obama’s Marxist machinations, for their own peace of mind people who counted sheep before falling asleep are now counting the ones jumping the fences in borderless nations

If German Chancellor Angela Merkel could cast a vote in the U.S. presidential election, she’d cast it for PC Sister Hillary Clinton.
Ditto for all clucking-like-free-range-hens EU MEPs, and assorted world ‘leaders’, who claim airtight rights and control over human masses as their so-called presidents and prime ministers.
Leaders of the global elite long ago stopped leading the masses choosing instead to entertain them.  When it comes to exposing their big cabooses to the world, they learned a lot from publicity hound Kim Kardashian.
CFP’s personal favourite image from yesterdays European Parliament melee is the one of European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on his way out of the chamber plugging both ears with his index fingers.  Plugging oner’s ears with one’s index fingers is a growing-up throwback to spats between name-calling brothers, but the big difference is those brothers of the past were paid small weekly allowances from daddy’s pockets while the annual pre-tax salary for an MEP is currently €96,246.36 (£78,000, $131,500). The basic salary is fixed to 38.5% of that of a judge at the European Court of Justice. That compares to a £27,000 (€33,370) average gross annual salary in the UK, assuming you have a full-time job—and have their own indoor shopping plaza on which to splurge it.
‘When I came here 17 years ago, you all laughed at me. Well, you’re not laughing now, are you?’  said Nigel Farage.
“They were not. Some in the large, hemispherical Chamber at L’Espace Leopold started to give him the bird (donner l’oiseau)” (Daily Mail, June 28, 2016)
The histrionics in the Europe Parliament was a match for the American Democrats’ sit-in while singing ‘We Shall Overcome’ off key last week.  Cameras never showed how the heavy-bottomed Dems would need help getting back up.
In any case, taxpayers should replay videos of both Brits and Americans to the strains of the Broadway song, ‘Let Me Entertain You’.
Everything was going ticked-y-boo for EU pooh-bahs over too many long decades until the sheep—17 million of them—chose to stampede over the fence, cancelling out EU shepherding in England.
Every cause needs a straw man, and Nigel Farage is theirs.  Problem for the clucking hens is that the straw inside the UKIP leader is more barbed wire than straw, and no matter how ear-splitting the barnyard clucks, his quicksilver tongue can still be heard all over the want-to-be-free West.
In the aftermath of Brexit there are now calls for some 34 EU referendums across Europe, and upstart Marine Le Pen is pointing out that “politicians are afraid”. (Daily Mail)
It is not the politicians who should be afraid but the millions they mis-represent and mis-rule.  The politicians have left their people borderless and are sending out a message to Islamic terrorists, ‘It should be easy now to slip in among ‘refugees’ in nations with no border control’;  ‘We’re making it plain that we find it much easier fighting each other rather than you’.
In the Brexit fallout, North American citizens have more to worry about than with whom they can now trade.  Politicians across the pond are also holding their citizens hostage to Islamic terrorism, the only difference being their citizens are not allowed to identify them by name.
Wake up, North America, President Barack Obama, who threatened to send British Brexit supporters to the back of the queue, has already started to tighten the control of American, Canadian and Mexican citizens in yesterday’s meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Enrique Pena Nieto.
In other words, the three amigos here are already at it.
In spite of all Obama’s Marxist machinations, for their own peace of mind people who counted sheep before falling asleep are now counting the ones jumping the fences in borderless nations.

Will the European Union collapse in the wake of Brexit?
EC president Donald Tusk appeals for calm as calls grow for referendums in other member states
The Week
Jun 24, 2016
As the world digests the news that the UK voted by 52 per cent to 48 per cent to leave the European Union, attention is turning to what this means for the future of the bloc itself.
European leaders have long feared a domino effect could be set into motion, with the citizens of other member states demanding their own referendums.
Can the EU survive this setback?
Ukip leader Nigel Farage says he hopes the outcome will bring down the EU.
"I hope this victory brings down this failed project and leads us to a Europe of sovereign nations, trading together, being friends together, co-operating together. And let's get rid of the flag, the anthem, Brussels and all that has gone wrong," he told supporters, shortly before dawn today.
Others have also predicted Brexit would call time on the bloc. Earlier this month, billionaire investor George Soros said a Leave vote would make the break-up of the EU "almost certain".
He added: "If Britain leaves, it could unleash a general exodus and the disintegration of the European Union will become practically unavoidable."
Will other countries try to leave the EU?
Efforts will be made to avoid "the psychology of a bank run" gripping the EU, amid calls for parallel referendums in the Netherlands, France, Poland and Hungary, says The Guardian.
Such a domino effect has been the stated goal of some Leave campaigners - Michael Gove called for the "liberation of Europe". France's National Front leader Marine Le Pen, Dutch anti-immigration politician Geert Wilders and Italy's Northern League have all called for their own vote.
A series of general elections are on the horizon that could prove pivotal. The Dutch go to the polls next March, the French in April and May, while the Germans will vote in autumn 2017. Many believe that if an independent Britain proves to be a success, the bloc could quickly unravel.
How does the referendum result affect Europe's global standing?
With such division and uncertainty in the air, some feel Europe woke up this morning a significantly weaker entity. Former Austrian chancellor Werner Faymann says it is inevitable the continent will lose some of its status.
What are EU leaders saying?
European Council president Donald Tusk has tried to calm the conversation, saying he is "determined to keep our unity" and that "hysterical reactions" should be avoided.
Next March marks the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, the EU's founding document. The Daily Telegraph predicts it will be "a fraught celebration".
