Muslims, "Sharia Law" and Other Thoughts! (Part 1)

Islamic Law, known as "Shariah"
By Ney Rieber
The historical pattern of Islam shows us that when a nation gains a sufficiently large Muslim population, they will begin to agitate for Shariah to be implemented. Shariah is the primary source of persecution for Christians in Muslim dominated states.
Islamic Law, Shariah
Obviously, the Prophet's intention was that the community should be a single community and the Shari’a its common rule of life. After his death, however, party strife broke out under his successors, the caliphs, three out of the first four of whom died by violence. Under the fourth caliph, `All, the Prophet's cousin and husband of his daughter Fatima, the community was torn in two. The legitimists, who held that the succession should remain in the Prophet's family and that 'Ali should have been the first caliph, have developed into the Shi'a sects, which are still a minority group in Islam. The great mass of Muslims, however, form the Sunni sect, ruled over at first by the caliphs of the Umayyad Dynasty reigning in Damascus, and then by the 'Abbasid Dynasty reigning in Baghdad, until the caliphate was taken over by the Turks. (Islam: Muhammad and His Religion, Arthur Jeffery, 1958, p xi-xiv)
The historical pattern of Islam shows us that when a nation gains a sufficiently large Muslim population, they will begin to agitate for Shariah to be implemented. Shariah is the system of civil law that is based upon the Qur’an and the Ahadith and the work of Muslim scholars in the first two centuries of Islam. Shariah extends beyond just civil law. Applied fully, the Shariah is a code for living that Muslims should adhere to, including prayers, fasting and donations to the poor. Shariah is the totality of religious, political, social, domestic and private life. Shariah is primarily meant for all Muslims, but applies to a certain extent also for people living inside a Muslim society.
Muslims feel that Shariah has been misunderstood by Christians, who have tended to concentrate on the
demands for harsh punishments such as amputation of a hand or foot for theft and public flogging for people caught drinking alcohol.
Under the Shariah laws in Afghanistan, the Taliban's religious police, formally known as the Department for Prevention of Vice and Promotion of Virtue, enforce the Shariah laws.
For example, a man’s beard must be long enough to protrude from a fist clenched at the base of the chin. If it is not, he is subject to punishment.
Under Shariah in Afghanistan, women are not allowed to work in any field except the medical sector. The Islamic law of Afghanistan does not allow the employment of women in government departments or international agencies. Women should not go outside their residences with the exception of those working in the medical sector.
Shariah also places restrictions on what women can wear and whom they can see. It forbids women from wearing jewelry and make-up and from making noise with their shoes when they walk. If a woman does work outside the home, she is forbidden to sit beside the driver when traveling to and from work. Stylish dress and decoration of women is forbidden.
There have been reported cases of the beating female doctors and female medical staff at the hospitals where they worked.
The instituting of a national law that incorporates both civil and spiritual laws is one of the principles that makes it difficult for Americans to understand Islamic nations. It is even more difficult for the people in those Islamic nations to understand a government that does not enforce morality as well as civil law. Since they do not understand the principle of the separation of the government from the religion, when people in Islamic nations see Western nation’s magazines with nudity or near nudity, they believe that what they are seeing is Christianity! After all, they are told that the United States is a Christian nation. When they see a satellite program that originates from Playboy, they think that is Christianity! When they see a television commercial for any kind of alcoholic beverage, they think that is Christianity! They do not understand the separation of government and religion. They cannot understand why those who produce such materials are not punished by the government.
Muslims believe that Shariah is not something the intelligence of man can prove wrong, it is only to be accepted by humans, since it is based on the will of Allah. Muslims see their religion and government being ordained by Allah. It is their conviction that Islam is intended to be the religion of all mankind. It is to be the universal religion to replace Judaism, Christianity, and all others. While Muslims may deny it, they are willing to replace other religions first by conversion, then suppression and even armed conflict. In the Philippines, there is a growing Muslim population that is agitating for the institution of Islamic law. They have not hesitated to use violence to try to implement their beliefs.
Muslims claim that there is freedom of religion under Shariah. When Islam gains a strong representation in the population, they want to impose Shariah on everyone, since they believe that it is the only law that comes directly from Allah.
Below are some quotes or summaries from a newsletter called Compass Direct:
Nigeria, January 22, 1999, Sheikh Muhammad Mansur-al-Mansur, leader of the Islamic Democratic Progressive Party, said the government should adopt the provisions of the Koran as the constitution for Nigeria. He said the Koran is "the only divine constitution made by the Creator Himself." Dr. Muhammed Tabiu… said, however, that there was need for a stronger reinforcement of the Islamic law in the constitution.
Saudi Arabia, April 24, 1998, According to Amnesty International's "Behind Closed Doors" report on Saudi Arabia released in November 1997, "... the inhabitants of Saudi Arabia remain denied the most basic human rights, while the government spares no effort to conceal its appalling human rights record from public scrutiny." The report noted that Saudi's religious police, the Mutawa'een, are "invested with the authority to arrest and detain, particularly with regard to Christian worshippers."
Saudi Arabia July 17, 1998, Under Saudi Arabia's strict interpretation of Islamic law, observance of any religious worship other than Islam is illegal and Christians can be arrested for either distributing Christian materials or attending private meetings for Christian worship.
Jakarta, February 19, 1999, Jakarta branch chairman, Ahmad Heryawan states, "Indonesian law is man-made, Islamic law comes from Allah."
Indonesia, June 18, 1999, Islamic extremists want to impose "sharia" (Islamic law) on the majority Muslim population, changing Indonesia's status as a secular state. The current constitution binds the government to religious neutrality.
Chechnya, June 18, 1999, Chechnya has been declared an Islamic state by a decree signed into law on February 3. However, President Aslan Mashkadov has repudiated identification of his regime with Islamic extremism, defining "sharia" (Islamic law) as simply "the normal way of conduct for every Muslim."
Indonesia, June 18, 1999, Outwardly tolerant, with a constitution that mandates religious freedom for members of five accepted religions -- Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and indigenous religion. Extremist Muslims have chafed at their numerical superiority offering them no legal privileges, though in practice their overwhelming numbers often result in discrimination against Christians. Militant Muslims continue to agitate for "sharia"
Iraq, June 15, 2001, Despite Iraq's secularized government, apostasy from Islam remains a criminal violation of Islamic "sharia" law, ultimately requiring the death penalty. Officially a secular state, Iraq legally protects the freedom of its Christian minority to worship "in churches of established denominations," although the law forbids them to "proselytize or hold meetings outside church premises."
Nigeria , June 15, 2001, Katsina state, with a population of more than 3.7 million people, became an Islamic state on August 1, 2000, when the state government adopted "sharia," the Islamic legal system. Church leaders have been told to relocate to a designated "Christian zone. Of the 41 churches in Katsina city, 38 have been ordered to relocate.
Nigeria, August 24, 2001, Bauchi Governor Alhaji Ahmed Adamu Muazu declared on June 1 that Islamic (sharia) law applied to all persons in the state, not Muslims only. On June 4, Muazu assigned an Islamic court judge to Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro Local Government Areas to enforce Islamic law in the predominantly Christian villages.
Afghanistan, August 24, 2001, "Seven months ago, Taliban leader Mullah Muhammad Omar declared over Radio Shariat that the death penalty would be imposed on any Afghan who converted to Christianity or Judaism, and that "any non-Muslim found trying to win converts will also be killed." A senior spokesman for the regime elaborated on the January 8 edict, alleging that "certain foreigners" in the country were trying secretly to convert Afghans to Christianity."
"The Taliban's so-called religious police arrested two young women on August 3, reportedly "caught red-handed" after showing a film about Christianity to an Afghan family, the Taliban said."
Islam places a great emphasis on the religion being the government. This is a strong contrast to the teachings of the New Testament.

Terrorizing Muslim Women
Nonie Darwish
Monday, 12 July 2010
There is an article floating all over the Internet, "Joys of Muslim Women," which discusses the horrific truth about how Islam legally treats women. The article claims to have been written by me, but that is false: I am not the author. Let me use this occasion, however, to set a few matters straight:
The silence is deafening around the world in regards to the inhumanity and brutality of Sharia towards women.
Most of the activism against stoning, flogging and abuse of women under Sharia is heard from former Muslim women, like myself, and a few others in the West who dare to expose the truth.
Muslim women have no choice but to abide by Sharia, since rejecting it is grounds for the charge of apostasy, punishable by death. Having been exposed to Sharia for centuries, Muslim women have learned convoluted coping mechanisms to avoid Sharia's wrath. Engaging in their own form of Stockholm Syndrome, most Muslim women publicly defend the very laws that enslave them. Even Obama's advisor on Islamic affairs, Dalia Mujahed, stated that Sharia is "misunderstood." Muslim women end up as the guardians of their own jails. It is women who often report younger girls who refuse to wear the head cover, and some wives cover up for the honor killing of a daughter by their husband or son. Many have accepted their inferior status and wear it as a badge of honor.
That is why there is no significant grass-roots feminist movement in the Muslim world today. Muslim feminists are routinely accused of apostasy - with its death penalty hanging over their heads. The only feminist movements to speak of in the Muslim world occurred during British colonial rule and, on a smaller scale, when the French conquered Egypt in 1798. By the end of the British rule, feminism ended inside the Muslim world.
Many Muslims claim that "Islam honors women" just as they claim that Islam is a "Religion of Peace." The truth however, is just the opposite. Islam does not honor women, but rather holds their very lives in absolute bondage.
America must outlaw Sharia from ever being practiced by anyone on American soil. If we fail to do this, if we permit Sharia to creep into our legal system, we might as well say goodbye to our freedom. Here are just a few examples of what Muslim women must live under:
[1] There is no age limit for marriage of girls under Sharia. A man can pay a dowry and sign a marriage contract with parents of a toddler girl and consummate the marriage at age 9. Recent cases in Yemen and Saudi Arabia exposed this tragedy when 8-year-old girls filed for divorce from their over 50-year-old husbands. Not one Muslim authority challenged the Saudi marriage high official, Dr. Ahmad Al Mubi, who stated in 2008, in an interview that aired on LBC TV: "There is no minimal age for entering marriage. The Prophet Muhammad is the model we follow."
[2] Islamic law states: "a Muslim will not be punished for killing an adulterer." Islam, therefore, encourages honor killing of women. Since men have more sexual rights than women in Islam, it becomes harder to catch a man committing adultery. Thus women become more susceptible to becoming the victims of the above law, which allows vigilante street justice against adulterous women. I have never heard a Friday sermon stating that honor killing is forbidden in no uncertain terms.
[3] A rebellious wife is one who "answers her husband coldly" or refuses to go to bed with him.
Rebelliousness on the part of the wife nullifies the husband's obligation to support her and gives him permission to beat her (Shafi Law m10 and m11 p. 541-2). The Prophet said: "A man will not be asked as to why he beat his wife".-Sunaan Abu Dawud, 11.2142
[4] Divorce is only in the hands of the husband and is as easy as verbally saying "I divorce you." Thus the wife is divorced whether the husband had the intention to do it or not. Law n3.2 p 559.
[5] There is no community property between husband and wife in Islam. A Muslim wife would be lucky to inherit 20% from her husband. A man's property after his death is not given to his wife, but is divided among many members of the family such as his parents, other wives; sons take double what daughters get.
[6] A man has the right to have up to 4 wives. Polygamy is not just a right, but loyalty to one wife is discouraged. Mohammed said: "The best Muslims had the largest number of wives," Bukhari 7.62.7. A Muslim man does not vow loyalty to his bride in the marriage ceremony and the bride must not expect it. In the Muslim marriage contract itself, the husband is asked to give name and address of wife number 1, 2 and 3 if any. (See a copy of the Muslim marriage contract in my book, chapter 2 of Cruel and Usual Punishment.)
[7] Mutaa or pleasure marriage gives the right to a man to marry a woman for a fixed amount of time, from a few hours to several years. That takes away any holiness in the concept of marriage. The only condition is that the man must pay the woman money (dowry) in exchange for sexual rights over her body. This is simply legalized prostitution, exploiting needy and poor women. This form of marriage is not registered or regulated by the State.
Urfi marriage is another form of marriage that is usually kept as a secret. Sharia has not forgotten the traveling man and gave him "Misyar" marriage allowing him "wives" in different cities. Sharia satisfies men's urges at the expense of women's dignity and humanity with total disregard to limitations and wholesome standards for men to live by for the benefit of a healthy family life.
[8] The Qur'an often uses the word "nikah," which literally means sexual intercourse, to mean marriage. The dowry is called "ugur" in the Qur'an, meaning wage. It is payment for owning a woman's private parts to be used by the husband as he wishes. "The dowry is given in exchange for the woman's sexual organs." (Ibn Kathir)
[9] A man is allowed to have sex with slave women and women captured in battle, and if they are married their marriage is annulled. Qur'an 4:24: "All married women (are forbidden unto you) save those (captives) whom your right hands possess." Sharia never abolished slavery and highly regulates it, that is, makes it "regular." Saudi Arabia officially abolished slavery only as late as 1962 after pressure from the "infidel" Western Judeo-Christian culture. To this day, the Muslim leadership in Egypt and Saudi Arabia refuses to annul slave sexual rights for men in Sharia books.
[10] The testimony of a woman in court is half the value of a man, law o24.7. You can guess who usually wins if a man and woman face each other in court.
[11] Revered Muslim theologian Imam Ghazali (1058-1111) defined marriage for generations of Muslims without apology as: "Marriage is a form of slavery. The woman is man's slave and her duty therefore is absolute obedience to the husband in all that he asks of her person."
[12] For a Muslim woman to prove rape, she must have 4 male witnesses. "Proof of adultery and rape will be either confession of accused or eye-witness of four male adult Muslims." Hudood ordinance #7 of 1989 amended by #8B of 20 of 1990.
[13] A rapist may only be required to pay the bride-money (dowry) without marrying." law m.8.10, page 535. This law tells the man that all he has to do to rectify a rape is to pay a dowry to the rape victim. Rape is almost always blamed on the girl who must come up with 4 male witnesses, especially if she was not covered up the Islamic way. A Muslim preacher in Australia blamed rape by Muslim men on Australian women whom he described as "uncovered meat."
[14] The Prophet said, "I looked at Hell and saw that the majority of its inhabitants were women." Bukhari 4:464. There is a book sold in British mosques entitled: "Women Who Deserve to Go to Hell" by Mansoor Abul Hakim.
[15] A Muslim woman must cover every inch of her body since Islam regards every part of a woman's body as "Awrah," a sexual organ. Some sects of Islam demand the covering of the face and others don't. This kind of extreme cover of even the face deepens the feeling of isolation, gender segregation and becomes the symbol of Islamic submission and presence in the West.
[16] Muslim scriptures describe women as deficient in intellect and faith, toys, crooked, half devils, harmful and detrimental to men. Also the prophet stated: "After me I have not left any affliction more harmful to men than women." Bukhari V 7, B 62/33. "A woman's jihad is to please her husband" is taught by some Muslim women websites such as, posted on 11-2-2008.
This article is dedicated to Sakine Mohammadi Ashtiani, an Iranian woman in jail who is awaiting death by stoning for alleged adultery. Under international pressure, Iran just announced that her stoning is "postponed." But the regime still plans to execute her.
Muslims rally for Sharia law in UK, prompting nationalist protests
Published: 21 June, 2010
Muslim protestors gathered in London on Sunday calling for aspects of Sharia law to be introduced in Britain. The rally turned into chaos, sparking a counter-demonstration by English right-wing nationalists.
“We find many of these people who call for human rights and one law,” said Asad Ullah, member of the Muslims against the Crusades group. “They come and they say that they want equality. But what equality do you get when one man legislates over another? Is he not more superior than you? You are worshipping him by submitting to and obeying his laws… We will get oppression like this until we all submit to one law, and that is the law of God.”
A few meters away from Ullah, Maryam Namazie, spokesperson for One Law for All, a campaign that opposes the introduction of Sharia law, struggled to get her voice heard. She attended the rally along with a group of other moderate Muslims and non-Muslims who came to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of Neda Agha-Soltan, killed following last year’s Iranian election.
"The British government is making a huge mistake giving them access to bring Sharia law here,” Namazie said. “It thinks it can reduce terrorism by doing that. It doesn’t understand that this is the political wing of the terrorist movement and they are here to suppress people’s rights. And we’re not going to allow it.”
The nationalist English Defense League also attended the rally. They were not welcomed by either group, although some among them said they came with a message of inclusion.
“We’re members of the EDL, we’re not racists – black, white, brown unite against these Islamic preachers,” said Hayley Moore. “We want one law for all in the UK, so we’ve decided to come and join these to protest against them.”
“Our lads got arrested, and they didn’t do nothing. They got arrested, and they should be arresting them because they’re inciting religious and racial hatred,” Moore said, referring to the EDL protestors bundled into vans by the police who said they had no permission to demonstrate.
Shortly thereafter, a group of protestors carrying “Unite Against Fascism” banners joined the rally. It first seemed that those carrying the UAF banners were there to oppose the EDL, until their chanting became clear and one could hear them calling out “Allah Akbar.” The UAF group has denied any association.
A total of four factions protesting in favour of and against the introduction of Sharia law into the UK were represented at the rally on Sunday. Such demonstrations are becoming more and more common on the streets of towns all across the UK.
