Justin Trudeau is Raising Taxes on Canadians with Diabetes
Pierre Poilievre
October 22, 2017
OTTAWA – Conservative Shadow Ministers today joined Diabetes Canada to demand that Justin Trudeau cancel his latest tax grab, this time targeting vulnerable Canadians living with diabetes. Conservatives recently learned that the Canada Revenue Agency has been denying diabetics’ applications for the Disability Tax Credit, even when their doctors have certified that they are eligible under the law, resulting in them paying thousands of dollars more in taxes. In addition, diabetics risk losing funds already built up in their Registered Disability Savings Plans, because the CRA no longer considers them to be disabled.
Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance Pierre Poilievre said: “Justin Trudeau is running out of other people’s money. His hunt for more continues. First, he targeted local businesses. Then his tax department tried to tax the employee discounts of waitresses and cashiers. Now his government is targeting vulnerable people suffering with diabetes with thousands of dollars in tax increases. Our message to him is simple: follow the law and respect the certifications of doctors, which prove these people qualify under the rules.”
Conservative Shadow Minister for National Revenue Pat Kelly said: “This government is trying to raise additional tax revenue at the expense of diabetics. This is part of an alarming trend from a government increasingly desperate to raise revenue to fund its out-of-control spending. While the Finance Minister uses complex corporate structures to shelter his personal wealth, this government is rejecting Disability Tax Credit claims from diabetics.”
Conservative Shadow Minister for Small Business Dan Albas said: “All we are asking is for the government to respect the law, which allows people who require 14 hours or more of life sustaining therapy to access the tax credit. The Liberals are ignoring the law and denying people a tax credit that doctors have certified they are eligible to receive. Conservatives will continue to fight Justin Trudeau’s tax hikes every step of the way.”
The Disability Tax Credit reduces the tax burden of people with Type One Diabetes and others with disabilities. Under the law, they have been eligible to receive it for the last ten years as long as a doctor certified that they required life sustaining therapy at least three times each week for a total of 14 hours, on average. Yet, the government is now taking the tax credit away from diabetics even when doctors certify they are eligible under the existing law and policy, neither of which has changed.  This new direction appears to have happened secretly, with no public notice or consultation with the diabetes community.

A quarter-million Canadians suffer from Type One Diabetes. Most require a half-dozen blood tests a day and regular insulin treatments. Failing to keep up these treatments can result in comas, amputations, heart disease or even death. Devices required for these treatments costs as much as $15,000/year to patients.
New Liberal Tax on Employee Discounts Will Target the Working Class
Pierre Poilievre
October 9, 2017
Ottawa, Ontario—Conservative Shadow Finance Minister, Pierre Poilievre, today condemned Justin Trudeau’s new tax on employee discounts, a plan uncovered by Globe and Mail reporter, Campbell Clark, who published an email he received from a CRA official confirming the new rule.
Under the new rules, local business owners will now need to track each time a waitress gets a discount on food or a shoe salesmen gets 10% off on footwear, so the government can tax these workers on “the fair market value of the merchandise purchased, less the amount paid by the employee,” according to the Canada Revenue Agency’s “folio”.
“When the Liberals said they would go after ‘wealthy tax cheats’ this is what they meant: hard-working waitresses having a pizza at midnight after an eight hour shift or a fitness trainer who gets a gym membership with his job,” said Poilievre. “Now local business owners will need to track all of these discounts so the government can charge higher taxes to low-income wage earners.”
While the Retail Council warned the Finance Committee about the change in September, most MPs believed it had to be a mistaken interpretation, until today.
“This latest Liberal tax increase will target those who can least afford to pay more. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s ‘family fortune’, as he likes to call it, will be untouched once again.”
“If the government wants to tax the difference between the ‘fair market value of the merchandise purchased’ and the price paid, then perhaps that rule should apply to the Prime Minister. Justin Trudeau and his family enjoyed thousands of dollars of vacation benefits paid by wealthy friends and he should pay tax on that price discount.”
“The Liberals cannot simply blame this decision on the CRA. The Prime Minister has set the tone. By attacking our local businesses and family farmers, and calling them tax cheats, he has unleashed the tax collectors to hound all hardworking Canadians for more money.
“There is an alternative, Prime Minister: get government spending under control, so you will no longer need to pick the pockets of working people,” concluded Poilievre, who pledged to continue the fight against this and other tax increases on the floor of the House of Commons.
OWNED: Poilievre Asks Why Moneybags Morneau’s Massive Fortune Is Sheltered From Tax Hikes

In Question Period, Conservative Finance Critic Pierre Poilievre owned Bill “Moneybags” Morneau
Poilievre asked Moneybags why the tax hikes on Canadian small businesses aren’t being applied to the Trudeau and Morneau family fortunes.

Morneau had no good answer, and got so upset that he accused Poilievre of lying, and had to be admonished by the Speaker and withdraw the comment.
Immense hypocrisy by Moneybags Morneau

Moneybags Morneau and Justin Trudeau are a pair of entitled elitists who are punishing Canadian small businesses while protecting their elitist privileges. It’s total hypocrisy, and it’s a betrayal of Canadians.
